I have been in Arabian racing since the late 70's, member of the International Arabian Racing Board and founding member of the Arabian Jockey Club. I started with *Krezus (Czort x Kreolka), a Polish Derby winner and 8 stakes races in Poland. *Krezus was the leading money winner for two years while in Poland and the sire of 6 Derby and Oaks winners. We continued with *Dunajec (Banibor x Dyska), also a leading money winner in Poland for two years. His dam was Forta out of Porta and was sired by Wielki Szlem. We stood *Gedymin by Gwarny. The new generation of racing horses at Five Mile Ranch all have the prefix FMR and are by Cassels Roszlem+. A winner of half his races and was the Race Horse of the Year in California in 1981. His granddam is *Genua, who is in the pedigree of many successful Arabian racers. *Genua was by Grand, raced 3 years in 18 races, winning 14, 10 of which were stakes races. I have not believed in quantity at Five Mile Ranch, but instead believed a superior race horse was preferred. Over the last 20 years we have bred approximately 4 foals a year. Of the horse we ourselves have raced, 27% have placed. Cassels Roszlem+ foals that have raced, 21% are winners, 8% stakes winners. We believe that a good mare is the foundation of a good breeding program and are fortunate to have had *Genua, *Bulavia, *Chlosta and other bloodlines here at the ranch. Now we have daughters of *Orzel, FMR Celebrate, FMR Grand Jubilee, FMR Kasia, and FMR Betania as well as Abrina (Figaro x *Sabrina) to continue. From this very select group of Polish horses, there have been over 9 track records set at over 7 tracks with track records still at Atlantic City (FMR Atak, 6F,7F), Los Alamitos (Muskac, 5 ½ F), Sam Houston (FMR Country Doc, 1 1/8M), Tampa Bay Downs (FMR Country Doc, 6F) andTurf Paradise (Muskac 6 ½ F). FMR Hadassah was the 1995 Arabian Race Horse of the Year. Three horses have been exported to the Middle East, one to England and another to Germany. Note: Sold at auction, March 11, 2011, by Williams & Williams Auction of Tulsa. They did not start on the Auction until about 60 days after the contract was signed, did not perform a comprehensive inventory as promised, and most of the marketing was within 60 miles of the farm. It appears that a generic marketing campaign was launched similar to other mass marketing campaigns and sold at generic prices in a "Dash for Cash”. I would be more than happy to discuss my experience with Farm Auctions. Read a related article published in The Joplin Globe.
